Twenty nine billionaires pledge to fund technical solutions to climate change

This week, twenty nine billionaires including Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Richard Branson (Virgin Atlantic) and Jack Ma (Alibaba), have launched the Breakthrough Energy Coalition fund.

The group doesn’t consider the current research funded by governments to be sufficient and that it is required to ‘add the skills and resources of leading investors with experience in driving innovation from the lab to the marketplace’.

The Breakthrough Energy Coalition focuses on technology to solve energy problems. It is committed to creating public – private partnerships and a focus on early stage near zero carbon emission companies. Bill Gates currently expects that the coalition will fund more than 100 companies during the next decade.
